Suchitra Sen was an Indian film actress who worked in Bengali and Hindi cinema. she was paired opposite Uttam Kumar became classics in the history of Bengali cinema. She was the second Indian actress to receive an international film festival award at Moscow International Film Festival, in the year 1963. In 1972, she was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India. From 1979 she retreated from public life and shunned all forms of public appearances, a reason which she refused the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, In 2005, the highest cinematic award in India, In 2012, she was conferred the West Bengal Government's highest honor: Banga Bhushan.
