The Norwich Terrier. This sturdy and stocky little man can only be described as a true terrier. He loves excitement and he loves adventure, he’s just a real funlover. Bred as a foxholer, he still loves to chase small animals, either into holes or pretty much anywhere else.

He’s very alert, cheeky and highly entertaining, though can be quite a challenge at times. A great companion in general, but probably better suited to those with a spirit of adventure and a sense of humour. He gets on pretty well with other dogs, pets and strangers; he’s a fantastic watchdog, but terrible guard!

As small as he might be, he needs a good walk each day to stretch those short little legs. He’ll also appreciate the chance to have a run, in an area that’s safe for him. If he gets the chance to combine his run with a good exploration session, he’ll be very happy indeed.

Grooming wise he needs a bit more attention than average. His wiry coat requires a good combing about twice a week, and stripping of his dead hairs about every three to four months. He’s fairly happy in most moderate temperatures, but not so good with extremes.

Interesting facts: These little guys have had a few names over the years. Always valued in England, they were popular ratting terriers that became an unlikely hit with students of Cambridge University in 1880s! They gained the name CanTab, which later changed to Trumpington Terrier and finally the breed was divided into both the Norfolk and the Norwich Terriers.

The Norwich Terrier. A lively little dog that needs an equally lively owner!
