North Vancouver Island Camping, Wildfire & Dusty Detours

We are back on the road up North Vancouver Island camping trip, where We will try to find a nice camping spot by the ocean to spend the weekend.
This time we will be just north of Sayward, which will be the furthest we have gone North on the Island at this point in our travels. It is always exciting to explore new roads and areas. You just never know what you’ll find.

Little did we know at this point that our North Vancouver Island adventure would take an unexpected turn, as we encountered the Cameron Lake Wildfire on the way back, only 20 minutes from home.
The fire closed down Highway 4 here on Vancouver Island and is the only major connection between the west coast towns of Ucluelet, Tofino and Port Alberni.
We ended up having to take the dusty Highway 4 detour from Lake Cowichan to Port Alberni.
