'No precedent': Director Ava DuVernay on the path to her groundbreaking film Origin

To make the movie Origin based on the book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson, director Ava DuVernay stepped away from the studio system, returning to her roots as an independent filmmaker. In this extended interview, the Oscarnominated director spoke with CBC's Eli Glasner about how Barbie led her to filmmaking, working with actors on the heartwrenching project, and why Origin's story is so timely.
