This is the allnew Mercedes EClass!

Mat’s flown over to Vienna to take a closer look at Mercedes’s BMW 5 Series competitor, and he’s about to find out just how much the EClass has evolved over the previous generation.

Starting with the design, it’s fair to say it looks pretty similar to the previous edition. Starting around the back, it looks pretty smart with a chrome strip running along the whole of the car, along with a pair of smartlooking threepointed star lights. So it looks pretty good, although it’s let down by some incredibly fakelooking exhausts! Along the side, the new EClass is available with alloys that range from 17 to 21 inches, and it has some sleek popout door handles. Head round to the front and the EClass comes with an allnew grille, however, the overall design is still pretty similar to the last gen.

Step inside and the changes are much more noticeable, starting with the huge super screen that stretches across the entire dash! It comes with three screens, with digital dials for the driver, a bespoke screen for the passenger, and a central infotainment screen. You can download thirdparty apps such as TikTok and Zoom, while the driver’s display comes with allnew 3D effects! You’ll find highquality materials throughout the majority of the cabin, although there are a few cheaper bits of plastic to be found. The seats are also pretty comfortable, and there's loads of headroom and space for passengers in the back.

There are several engines to choose from. The entrylevel is the E200, which is available as either petrol or diesel and comes with a 2litre turbo engine that delivers around 200hp. There’s also an E450 that’s equipped with a 3litre straightsix turbo that can put down 380hp. Then there are a couple of plugin hybrids available, with the rangetopper being the E400e which comes with a 2litre turbocharged engine coupled with an electric motor that can put down 380hp. All cars come equipped with a 9speed automatic gearbox, and the plugin hybrids come with a 20kWh battery which is good for a range of up to 70 miles.

Mercedes hasn’t confirmed the price yet, but you can expect it to start from around £50,000. But will it be worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!
