Nesting parenting and fledging of Japanese Tit (Great Tit) that spawned before preparing the nest…

Follow
しめさん (Shimesan)

After the wonderful nesting of 10 Japanese Tit chicks, a titmice, probably a different individual, started to build a nest right away.

But they didn't make it in time, or maybe they didn't have any nesting material at all, and suddenly laid an egg...
The sound of an egg being laid in an empty birdbox may not be something you hear very often...

This is the second video of 41 days from nesting to leaving the nest (I recorded in 1080p this time, so I have about 1.5 TB of data...), which I wanted to make it 30 minutes, but it was impossible. I know it's getting long, but I hope you'll enjoy it to the end.

42:51 [Bonus footage] The birdhouse after leaving the nest

The Japanese tit usually lays one egg a day, but this time, the second egg was laid five days after the first, and then one a day after that, which was an irregular spawn. The timing of hatching was also off, and there was a 70hour time lag between the first and last eggs. the first one left the nest in 17 days, but the second one left in 19 days, so it seems that this time the decision was made to make the first born children wait for two days and let them all leave the nest together. However, as you can see at the end of the video, only one bird left the nest a little late, so it may have gotten separated from its parents...I hope it is safe.

That's it for the nesting box videos we were able to collect in 2020. We plan to set up the birdhouse again next year, improving the picture and sound quality even better.
