The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the first oral medication for the treatment of postpartum depression. It will be sold under the brand name Zurzuve and the generic name is zuranolone. We know that postpartum depression is a serious and potentially dangerous condition that puts both the mother and infant at risk.

Prior to this the only treatment for postpartum depression was a 60hour infusion that is only available at certain centers and carriers a premium price tag $34,000. Zuranolone uses the same mechanism of action but offers the medication in a convenient pill form.
