In this video, I talk about my journey from high school to medical school. I didn't talk too much about extracurricular activities I did or the number of AP classes I took during high school because I honestly don't think it matters all that much for med school. That said, I do think high school is a great time to explore and develop who you are as a person and pursue hobbies and interests that make you UNIQUE. Getting into a "good college" definitely has its merits but it won't necessarily help you get into medical school.

From my experience, medical schools look for people who have a variety of interests and hobbies. Doing well in college is obviously very important but as admittance to medical schools becomes more and more competitive, schools are looking beyond the numbers (GPA & MCAT) and starting to assess each applicant as a whole.

As you will see, I was not the best student in high school and I wanted to be as transparent about that as I possibly can. I want to encourage everyone to not give up on your dreams even if you're not going to a "good" college or have a certain GPA. I also want to stress the importance of setting specific goals and working towards them. For me, realizing I wanted to go to medical school made such a huge difference in how I performed in school.

If you are already a good student in high school and have tons of extracurricular activities, keep up the good work! But don't forget to LIVE your life and find time to do the things you love doing. Find your passion IN and OUTside of school.
