My Most Difficult Repair on My Winnebago

Follow
rv life diy

In this video, I go over replacement of the exterior caulking of My Winnebago View. My original caulking started turning yellow, and cracking within 6 months of purchase. My warranty request with Winnebago was originally denied because they stated the exterior sealants have to be inspected by an authorized Winnebago repair facility every 6 months. Don't let this happen to you. It is defective workmanship, and make your case with Winnebago. They will make it right if you are persistent. I wanted the repair done at the Winnebago factory, but they would not authorize that request. I had two different dealers work on the repair, and both times were failures, and ultimately caused more work for the final fix. In hind site, I should have done the repair myself, because I knew how much effort was required to make the fix. This is my only gripe with Winnebago. The rest of the RV has held up fine. If this is happening with your RV, contact Winnebago and be persistent. The product they originally used was probably not the best for the application (in my opinion). Don't let them tell you this is the first they have heard of the problem. This is not a knock on Winnebago. I'm sure they have no desire for any of their products to fail. But they need to make it right. I took my own risk on the product used, so I am not suggesting you copy what I did. Do your own research on the product to use. I used a product that is made for a metal roof, but is compatible with any building materials. The clean and prep is the most important part of the repair. Hope this helps.

Plastic razors I used: https://amzn.to/3ogQZbe
I used the plastic razor blade along with mineral spirits to do all the clean up of the old caulking.

The new caulking I used was Titebond Weathermaster Metal Roof Sealant. The color I used was 62611. This is not made for an RV so use at your own risk.
