My Grumman 2 TearDrop Trailer Design

Follow
AstroNerd

I originally designed this teardrop trailer as my base of operations for my astronomy hobby. I try to get out to very dark, remote locations with very little light pollution. As of yet, I have not gone any further in the build process. Given my inexperience with building trailers and a lack of sophisticated tools, I estimated 250 to 300 man hours for me to build this trailer. Given my inexperience and but more importantly lack of time, it would take me years to come up with that many free hours.

Instead I purchased an Aframe camper with a wet bath and I have loved having the extra room, a toilet, heat and A/C. However I wish I had a better outdoor kitchen set up.

Below are some useful links.

Firstly, a great resource for teardrop trailers is http://tnttt.com/, a great forum!

A forum member by the name of danlott put together a great set of tutorial videos on how to use SketchUp. There is no way I could have designed my Teardrop without the knowledge passed along by Dan! Here is a link to that topic on the TNTTT forum: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=...

Lastly, I've uploaded my SketchUp model to the their 3D Warehouse for anyone to access. You can access the model thru the SketchUp application, going to the 3D Warehouse and searching for 'Grumman 2 XL Teardrop Trailer' You can also download it from the following URL: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/sear...

It should be noted that I am not a professional designer nor a professional builder/fabricator/engineer. I put together the design as a fun activity for myself. Since I am not a professional, I cannot make any guaranties as to the structural safety of the design; please use at your own risk.
