It's my favorite book of all time because it's the building block and foundation on how to study successfully and efficiently.

FULL NOTES:
Learning deeper and more durable when effortful.
Poor judges when we are learning well and when we're not. Testing helps calibrate our judgments.
Rereading: waste of time.
Make mistakes and correcting them builds bridges to advance to learning

NO LEARNING: Repetition, Easy,

Vs

STRONG LEARNING: Elaboration + Hard + Relate it to meaningful problem + application, relate to what you already know, you’ll feel stuck recalling takes effort, spaced repetition, interleaved with 2+ subjects.

The greater effort in the retrieval, the more it will be retained.
don't be fooled: spaced learning maybe more difficult and slower. If learning is compressed, you're decieved into thinking you're making progress because of immediate affirmations.

Mastery: knowledge + application

EFFECTIVE FLASHCARD TECHNIQUES:
should require cognitive effort. Should not become a mindless recitation. Should be spaced out.
best times to test : 1)right after class. 2)Spaced out, periodically.
filling out the words and missing letters results in better memory of the word. (e.g. “I like to play bask___ll.” Answer: basketball)
