'My blood group is not the same as my kids' - the Paternity Question.

AskAwayHealth With Dr Sylvia

"My blood group is not the same as my kids" is a question that many Dads wonder about and sometimes can wreck a family when actively pursued.

But is checking blood group the best way to determine if you are really the kids' father?

In this video, we explain why a dad can have a different blood group from his kids and still be their dad.

We cover a little aspect of the ABO blood group system, which is the classification of relevance here, but it is a little more complex than what is described here.

We also look at the Rhesus group classification to establish how inheritance could happen but essentially it is important for people to understand that the blood group alone does not imply biological relationship and paternity.
