Turkey's president joined thousands of people for the first Friday prayers at the Hagia Sophia in more than 80 years.
The 1,500yearold site is revered by both Christians and Muslims.
It was converted from a museum to a mosque after a Turkish court ruling earlier this month a decision criticised by many Christian leaders.
