Pet Health Certificates
USDA forms are submitted to the USDA
During the exam, vet verifies health, rabies vaccination, and microchip in some cases
Paperwork is good for 10 days typically, depending on country. Should often schedule 14 days in advance to allow for processing time.

Canada, The Bahamas, and Mexico do not require USDA endorsement for pet travel.

Emotional Support animals –law changed Jan 2021 to no longer allow any emotional support animals, they are classified as pets now. Trained service animals are still allowed.

Rabies vaccinations must be at least 30 days old but not more than 1 year old/3 years old.

Nearly all US based airlines stopped manifest cargo in March & April 2020 due to COVID 19, and many have not reopened their pet programs.

Cargo bookings for pets are different – there is a limited booking window. often can only book 30 dates out or 10 days out from departure.

Current pet restrictions:
Southwest – accepts pets in cabin, but not in cargo. No pets allowed on international flights. $95.
United – pets allowed in cabin on most international flights, $125 for incabin pet +$125 more per 4 hr+ stopover. Cannot book a bulkhead, emergency exit row, or United Premium Plus seat with incabin pet. Some more restrictions based on specific plane and route. No pet in cargo options at this time (suspended as of 2020)
Delta – Pet in cabin allowed, not in cargo. $200 for international flights.
Alaska – Pet in cabin AND in cargo! $100. Best for unique pets!
Hawaiian – Pet in cabin AND in cargo! Cabin is $175 and Cargo is $225. Pet + kennel weight may not exceed 70 lbs. Only transport pets domestically, and excludes certain airports (JFK, Boston, Austin, and Orlando)
Jet Blue – incabin pets allowed, including on international flights. $125 each way, not allowed in Mint. Not accepted on interline or codeshare bookings.
American – pets in cabin allowed, no cargo. $125.

Generally airlines won’t fly your pet in cargo if the local temperature at airports is above 85F/29C during transport.

Also won’t fly if it’s too low – below 20F/7C.

Embargo during certain months for the hottest airports (over the summer, varies slightly depending on the airline)
