Utilizing movement and mindfulness, a board certified dance/movement therapist facilitates a client’s process of self discovery and empowerment.

Annabelle F. Coote, MA, LMHC, BCDMT loves being a bodycentered therapist and helping both clients and therapists harness the power of the bodymind connection and the creative process to deepen, enrich and transform life experiences. She has over over 20 years experience as a therapist, educator, consultant and supervisor.

Currently she directs the bodycentered psychotherapy practice, Movement Matters and the Movement Matters Institute, dedicated to advancing bodycentered work in psychotherapy and helping therapists to discover and rekindle their inspiration and vitality as professionals. Her prior experience includes working with adults and adolescents in residential, outpatient and college settings, and holding clinical roles ranging from staff therapist to clinical director.

Annabelle enjoys supporting dance/movement therapy and mental health counseling students as an adjunct faculty at Lesley University and Antioch University New England, where she obtained her own MA in dance/movement therapy and counseling psychology. She is a licensed mental health counselor and a board certified dance/movement therapist, and has completed the level two training of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.

As the chair of the American Dance Therapy Association Continuing Education Subcommittee, Annabelle has played a central role in developing the ADTA webinar program. She also serves on the ADTA Standards and Ethics Committee and contributed to a major revision of the organization’s code of ethics.

Wanting to support other therapists in their professional development, she regularly presents at national and regional conferences, and was the keynote presenter for the New England chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association’s annual conference in 2015.

Annabelle shares her enthusiasm for her work as the author of “Returning Home: One Woman’s Journey from Depression to Joyous Living using BodyCentered and Creative Approaches in Dance/Movement Therapy”, a chapter in The Use of the Creative Therapies in Treating Depression (2015).
