Happy Mother's Day! We spent some time on a beautiful Sunday morning to tend to the 2 new honeybee colonies we picked up and put into brand new hives last weekend. We'll check to see how well each of the colonies are doing after a week of queen laying and brood comb expansion. Some new latches will help keep the hives secured on windy days and we're thinking it is time to give both hives more room to grow.

River Road Farms and Outdoors follows brothers Michael and Garrett who are First Generation farmers that focus primarily on custom haying. The farming portion of the channel is a collection of haying and farm machine repairs...essentially activity that we're encountering during the early beginnings of our farming ventures. We know there are probably better ways to do things and we don't always have the best farming equipment, but that's part of our vision of the channel to share what we see and do with an experienced community and respond to feedback, suggestions and comments.

We come from a family of farmers (technically 6th generation, over 200 years) but we started up independently on our own, after the retirement of our grandfather and his brother (Homer and Bill) as well as our uncle Larry and his cousin Jim, when the original Leslie farms officially retired in 2019. It was just poor timing on our part, but in some ways, allows us to see our own experiences and chronicle them for you to see. We've both also cut firewood since we were young kids as it was our primary winter heat source, and we continue that today as we cut for 45 family households as well as cut for independent sales (custom orders, adhoc public purchase).
