A study conducted by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce found that the number of businesses leaving California nearly doubled from 2012 to 2019. Despite the increase, it represents a relatively small percentage (0.3%) of the total number of businesses in the state. The businesses that let citied high cost of doing business, taxes and a generally unfavorable business climate. Both the state and a UCLA economist downplayed the study, saying rising employment and an increase in business applications paints a strong economic picture of California.
