An unemployed Perth man, who had more than $3.6 million in cash hidden in his bedroom, has been sentenced to four years in jail for serving as an illegal cash courier, moving substantial amounts of money for a mysterious crime syndicate that potentially involves bikies and organized crime groups.
The Australian Federal Police arrested 26yearold Thien Phuc Tran at his Alexander Heights home in December 2022 during a raid. This arrest followed a surveillance operation that tracked him behaving suspiciously, visiting parks, bushland areas, and secluded car parks late at night for short periods.
The surveillance operation indicated that he had been concealing cash in these areas for criminals to retrieve during these visits.
