Molly's 1980 Ironhead Sportster - Rooster

Molly, who is usually burning up the road on her 2021 Billiard Teal Road Glide, wanted to add an antique motorcycle to her garage. She ended up getting a great deal on a sweet 1980 custom Ironhead Sportster that she named Rooster. “I had a 1966 Mustang for a really long time, it was my very first car and I sold it during COVID. That’s what I really learned to work on engines with and I missed it, so I decided we’d go the bike route for an antique this go round” Molly said. The bike had been rebuilt by the previous owner and had a killer custom paint job already on it. But it’s an Ironhead, so she’s had some roadside fun, fulfilling her goal to have something to work on. “When I bought it, it was not running so that was the first thing getting it back in working condition. Changing out all the fluids, setting points that kind of thing. We made our biggest trip so far to the Smokeout rally in Salisbury and ended up on the side of 85. I’ve had quite a few electrical incidents and this go round it was just something easy, the ignition coil wiring came loose from the emission coil. So we lost all power to the bike and I had to pull over and break out the tools, which I now carry religiously on this bike, and just put it back on and kept rolling. We’ve got most of it sorted out and I’m looking forward to some longer runs in the future.” Molly Added. Even though Rooster missed the podium at the Smokeout, it has earned top marks at Camel City Bikefest & The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 25th Anniversary Bike Night. If you see her out and about, make sure you ask her about her valve stem caps.
