Mini Countryman Electric 2024 review: New E and SE small SUVs put Volvo XC40 Recharge EV on notice

The 2024 Mini Countryman has a trick up its proverbial sleeve – and a big one at that. Yep, in a sign of the times the thirdgeneration small SUV is available with not one, but two allelectric powertrain options, with the single motor dubbed E, while the dual motor goes by SE.

While petrolpowered Countryman variants remain available, the focus is very much on the E and SE, which go tyre to tyre with the Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, with the former producing 150kW of power and 250Nm of torque alongside a WLTPrated range of 462km, while the latter musters 230kW/494Nm and 432km.

In this expert review, CarsGuide Managing Editor Tim Nicholson travels to Portugal to get behind the wheel of the new Countryman E and SE to find out what they have in store for Australia ahead of their local launch. Needless to say, expectations are high as they enter an increasingly competitive segment.
