There's something about a droptop MINI that can't help but put a smile on your face. That's what I thought until I drove one of the first generation cars and that smile was quickly replaced with a frown. The driving experience just didn't measure up to what I was expecting. It seems more than a few owners submitted similar feedback to BMW, that the engines were too coarse for a convertible and that the chassis needed to be stiffer if it was to guarantee MINIstyle chuckability.
