In this video, Anthony Sequeira covers IP SLA source and IP SLA responder. This tool has gone through quite the evolution in Cisco operating systems and was previously known as the realtime responder, then the service assurance agent, and finally, the IP service level agreement.

The IP SLA is a fantastic tool for network administrators. A proactive manager can create synthetic traffic to be generated from an IP SLA source device and sent to an IP SLA responder. The responder can produce some impressive statistics that will give you quite a bit of insight into how your network is working. The SLA tool isn’t just reactive, though. A network administrator can set up various tests to automatically run, then generate alarms if things begin to go awry. Anthony will walk you through setting up these tests, as well as orienting you to what a results set will look like.
