President Rodrigo Roa Duterte met with Jovinal Dela Cruz and Rosemary Verzosa, the complainants who were victims of the luggage pilferage incident at the Clark International Airport, during a meeting at the Malago Clubhouse of the Malacañang Park in San Miguel, Manila on January 12, 2018.

“Itong nangyari kahapon, I would demand that there will be justice. Kung sino ang service provider diyan, you terminate the contract and look for another one. And so for the other airports in the country… People must see clearly that even to the small Filipino, there is justice for you. I would also demand that the airport authorities call the complainants and make amends. Even in public. Apologize for the sloppy job that we are doing. Matagal na kasi ito e…” President Rodrigo said.

Under the contract with the airlines in Clark, Pampanga, Miascor is the ground handler of the passengers’ baggage. The issue surfaced as Dela Cruz posted a video in his Facebook account Jov En Ros of the luggage theft incident which garnered thousands of shares by the netizens and called the attention of the authorities concerned.

According to the statement of Clark International Airport (CIAC) Acting President and CEO Alexander Cauguiran which was posted in DOTr official Facebook page, the six Miascor suspected employees were suspended after the incident and they may also face administrative charges.

“I will also recommend the termination from employment of these suspects,” Cauguiran said.

Meanwhile, Miascor has compensated an amount of PhP84,000 to Dela Cruz for the lost items in his luggage. Dela Cruz, together with Verzosa, arrived at the airport from Singapore on December 23. Upon claiming, their luggage were given to them damaged and some of the items were missing.

During the meeting, the President was joined by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Isidro Lapeña, Office for Transportation Security (OTS) Administrator Undersecretary Art Evangelista, Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions, Inc. (PAGS) President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Janette Cordero, CIAC Acting President Cauguiran, CIAC Customs Collector Maritess Martin, Airport Solutions and Management Group Vice President Arnulfo Pan, Miascor Clark Customer Service Manager Mark Esteban, Miascor Head of GSE Fleet Management Ricky Dale Tagabucba, Jose Catequista, among others.
