Livy was found at the Apple Valley Animal Shelter cowering at the back of her kennel. She was listed as rescue only: they’d had to use a catch pole to capture her off the streets. When she was brought out [on the pole] to meet the SCGRR Volunteer, we got a glimpse of why she’d been listed that way. We saw fear and desperation as she fought the pole and spontaneously lost her bladder in fright. Our dedicated volunteer was so touched and willing to see if Livy could safely decompress from her ordeal in a quiet space at home. The shelter helped to load her into a crate for safe transport.

At home, Livy was given the laundry room to herself with access to small outdoor area – free to come and go on her own terms. Given time, kind words and lots of hot dogs through the gate, Livy quickly warmed up to her foster mom. One of our trainers helped over zoom to make sure the two of them were on the right track to bonding safely. Just 45 hours of professional coaching at $150$250/hour is enough to help a dog like Livy.
