ARD Reisen

Lots of water, lots of greenery, lots of rest on her journey around the Mecklenburg Lake District, Judith Rakers feels how much power there is in nature and how deceleration works. (There is even more beautiful in the ARD media library:
https://1.ard.de/wunderschoen?ytmeckl...'>https://1.ard.de/wunderschoen?ytmeckl... ) In the Müritz National Park, she goes on a water patrol with chief ranger Matthias Hellmund by canoe and accompanies ranger Martina Fuhrmann on a forest expedition. Where in the Feldberg lake landscape are the most beautiful places to photograph the rare whitetailed eagle? What are the secrets of a houseboat ride? And how can you do yoga on a stand up paddle board without falling off? Judith Rakers finds out.

She also rents a Trabi and rattles to the East German Museum of Everyday Life in Malchow, helps in the Müritz Bear Forest with feeding the predators and learns how to fish with a trap from the greatgrandson of "Fischers Fritz". Alla and Helmut von Maltzahn welcome you to the concert at Ulrichshusen Castle, and there is a guided tour in historical costumes at Mirow Castle.

The Müritz: a small sea and a national park
With an area of 110 square kilometers, the Müritz is Germany's largest inland lake and is therefore also called the "Small Sea". Judith Rakers explores them by bicycle from Waren. She has a breathtaking view over the Müritz from the 33 meter high viewing platform of the Marienkirche in Röbel. East of the lake is the Müritz National Park. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is crisscrossed with long water veins on which water hikers travel by canoe.

Malchow: a swing bridge as a tourist attraction
A 15 meter long swing bridge connects the island town of Malchow with the mainland. To allow ships passage, the city's landmark is folded up every hour to the delight of tourists in the surrounding cafés. Judith Rakers meets Werner Ehrich, who has worked as a bridge keeper for decades. Not far away is the former "FilmPalast", which now houses the GDR everyday museum.

Feldberg lake landscape: sea eagle and a ferryman
As a volunteer nature conservation warden, Fred Bollmann knows the best "hiding spots" around the Feldberg lake landscape for observing and photographing birds. Judith Rakers witnesses how the rare whitetailed eagle comes sailing in when called. Ferryman Tom Voigtländer takes hikers, walkers and cyclists safely to the other bank of the turquoisegreen Schmale Luzin with one of the last handoperated cable ferries in Europe.
