The 49A M3 Personnel Carrier was the first military model to arrive in the Matchbox 175 series in 1958. It was in the range for a long time, lasting until 1967. During that time, little changed on the halftrack. All were painted shades of olive drab to dark military green and all had the US Army star emblem fitted to the hood. There were a number of minor variations to the models over the years, including changes from metal wheels to plastic, colour changes from grey to black plastic, a brief track colour change from grey to green, and the axle ends went from being crimped to rounded.

This model was sent in by long time Patreon supporter Tony. It had been painted over entirely in red covering the star emblem. Like most used examples it was missing its tracks too. I restored Tony's back to its original spec using the same Tamiya TS5 Olive Drab paint that I've used on all of my military restorations. I also had a second blackwheeled casting that I restored in a perhaps more authentic to the model darker British Green for comparison.

The M3 halftrack was built from 1941 to 1945 by the American Autocar, Diamond T, and White Motor Companies. It was used by allied forces during World War II and had a huge number of variations. Over 53,000 were built and later used in the Cold War.
