I was experimenting with this on a stereo acoustic guitar recording done with 2 SDCs in an XY config. The XY was placed horizontally, over the sweet spot, with one mic pointed towards the neck, and the other towards the body of the guitar.
These days I usually have it placed vertically over the sweet spot to avoid the tonal imbalance that horizontal can cause.
I put Fuser on the mic recording that was pointed at the guitar body, and sidechained it in Cubase with the mic recording of the neck. It really helped to balance the stereo field and even out the tone.
The final touch was to use RESO to surgically target a few harsh resonances.
