Rising out of New York, splicing through Pennsylvanian mountains, and emptying into the Chesapeake Bay, the Susquehanna River was a historically intriguing and contentious landmark for Native Americans and European settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries as the colonial frontier pushed into its watershed.
