Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, chapter 12 1 "The Cry of the Hunters", Narrated by Isaac Birchall

In this chapter, Ralph hides in he jungle from the hunters, and laments about the chaos that has arrived on the island. He thinks about the deaths of Piggy and Simon, and realises that the last traces of normal society have disappeared. He comes across the Lord of the Flies, now just a white skull, as white as the conch. Angry, ralph knocks it to the ground, and takes the stick as a weapon. Later that night, Ralph sneaks to the camp at Castle rock and hears Sam and Eric guarding the entrance. They give Ralph some food, but say that they cannot join him for fear that Jack will hurt them. They also warn him that Jack is going to send the whole tribe after him the following day
