Hygain MFJ Super Penetrator SPT500 antenna maintenance, sad it's already starting to wear.
2021 Update: antenna is in the trash, kept breaking, I do NOT recommend this antenna. You will be climbing the tower every 36 months repairing stuff that breaks from the wind. FYI: there's a popular post about this video on worldwidedx forum that says I installed the top insulator wrong. that is incorrect. at the :17 second mark which they point out, they failed to realize that the antenna is upsidedown at that particular point in the video. furthermore, on page 3 of the owners manual it clearly says: "The base assembly will have the top insulator preinstalled." Also the photo in the assembly manual matches that in my video. Seems they forgot that critical piece Either way, this video was for entertainment purposes only, but At least I was able to get some clear video in the event someone finds this video useful to see how mine was setup. For the record, the new SPT500 did not last as long as the older models, the old saying, they don't make them like they used to. The newer version had much thinner material and just mere wind caused vibration which fatigued some of the components. When you put the matching rod or shorting rod in your hand and feel the weight you'll see what i'm talking about.
