Heartsong Patrick has been requested again by our neighbors for living with their sheep while the ewes are lambing. Merely the presence of a good guard llama in the pasture with sheep, goats or other livestock, will deter a coyote or other predators. This farm has not lost a lamb since Patrick has started living with the livestock during the lambing season.

Llama guard work is not for all llamas. It takes a personality that is pretty independent. Patrick, when compared to our show llamas that we use for performance classes, is more aloof and less interested in humans. He really loves this job as a guard and even seems proud of himself.

Patrick also grows a beautiful fleece each year that we shear in the spring. The llama fleeces are turned in to roving and yarn at a mill in Wisconsin. We make the products available in our Etsy show: heartsongllamas
