The Sanja Matsuri is held at Asakusa Shrine in Taitoku, Tokyo, over three days on the third Friday to Sunday of May. This event is one of the most famous festival in Japan that attracts approximately 1.8 million people.

The town of Asakusa becomes most enthusiastic and lively during these three days, and will have various festivals. In this lives stream, we will bring you the excitement of the bearers of the Miokoshi reaching their peak during the “Honsha Mikoshi Miyairi” from the grounds of the shrine.

The main mikoshi refers to these three: “Ichinomiya”, “Ninomiya”, and “Sannomiya”. Residents of Asakusa are the bearers and carry the mikoshi through the town of Asakusa from early morning, returning to Asakusa Shrine, a process known as "Miyairi." The scene of the Mikoshi carried into the brightly lit grounds of Asakusa Shrine, accompanied by the festival music, is a powerful moment that even Japanese people familiar with festivals find incredible.
