Leptin Resistance Medications (Prescription medications that help with weight loss)

A list of leptin resistance medications that help lower leptin levels and reverse leptin resistance. These prescription medications are powerful tools to help manage leptin and help with weight loss.

Leptin resistance is a condition that makes weight loss almost impossible.

People with leptin resistance have a high serum leptin level which can be tested by looking at your bloodwork.

Treating leptin resistance can be very difficult and often includes using both diet, supplements, and even prescription medications in certain cases.

These prescription medications are often used offlabel because many doctors do not know how they work (or that they help with leptin resistance).

But even though they aren't prescribed often by standard doctors doesn't mean they don't work to help you lose weight and keep it off by lowering leptin levels.

Here are 5 prescription medications which help lower leptin and treat leptin resistance:

#1. GLP1 agonists.

These are probably one of the more common and effective medications at treating leptin resistance. They were originally designed to help treat type II diabetes but doctors found that they are very effective at helping people lose weight.

#2. Metformin.

Metformin is a cheap medication used to treat type II diabetes but some studies have shown that it can help lower leptin levels as well.

#3. Naltrexone.

Naltrexone is used offlabel to help treat autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis and studies have shown that it does impact both thyroid hormone levels as well as leptin levels directly.

#4. SGLT2 inhibitors.

These medications help prevent the absorption of glucose in the kidneys which helps reverse insulin resistance and can help with weight loss in some people. They also may have a leptin lowering effective through this mechanism.

#5. Salmon calcitonin.

This comes from salmon but is actually about 4050x more potent than human calcitonin which helps target amylin and lower leptin.
