Behat is a small, rather ordinary village in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh. But within its folds it hides a great past of being the birthplace of Tansen, considered among the finest exponents of music in India's rich cultural tradition and history. One of the navratnas of the Mughal Emperor Akbar, Tansen is a byword in musical excellence. And his journey began in this village, where his legend has lived on and grown. Among the stories is one about a Shiva temple with a unique design.
