VOA Learning English

Dan Novak and Ashley Thompson host today's Learning English show.

First: American Dorothy Jean Tillman II took her first college class when she was just 10 years old. This month, she became the youngest person to earn a doctorate in integrated behavioral health at Arizona State University. Dan Friedell reports about the young woman also known as "Dorothy Genius."

Then: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently permitted yogurt producers to make a health claim on containers of their products. The claim is that eating yogurt might reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, a health problem linked to how the body uses sugar for fuel. Anna Matteo presents the subject on the LE Health and Lifestyle Report.

Next: John Russell tells us about a new study on elephants. Researchers say the huge land animals have ways of greeting one another through sound and movement. The kind of greeting individual elephants can depend on the animal's sex and whether they are looking at each other.

Then: More and more stories are coming out about how AI is helping people who can no longer speak, regain a version of their voice. Dan Friedell returns to the podcast with a story about how the technology is helping American Alexis “Lexi” Bogan and others do just that.

Finally: Jill Robbins presents the LE program Everyday Grammar. This week, we review some of your messages about the language of recent protests and the prefixes common to such stories.

Dan and Ashley close the show.
