Learn Travel Spanish: How to ask for prices

Follow
Butterfly Spanish

First, think: What am I buying? Second, where am I buying it? Next, select the most appropriate question to ask for the price in Spanish. There are many different ways native Spanish speakers use to ask for the price of something. These questions depend on the quantity, place, location, and context. I will teach you which question is the most appropriate according to different contexts. In Spanish, the question is different if you are at the counter or at a table, at a store or on the street, at the corner store or in a mall, at the supermarket or in a “tianguis” or mercado, at a vegetable shop or butcher shop, and so on. You might think that you already know how to say “How much is it?” in Spanish: "¿Cuánto cuesta?" Though this "¿Cuánto cuesta?" question is very useful, there are many other ways that are just as useful but more appropriate for other more formal places or less formal places. More importantly, as you probably know by now, all nouns in Spanish, things in Spanish, have a gender, so I will give you tips that will help you ask your Spanish question regarding prices more completely and correctly. Even better, you will learn what to do and how to ask for the price when you are not sure about the gender of something you want, and will likely buy. And even more and more, you will learn how to bargain (my favorite!) in Spanish. But be careful! You have to watch this video because if you bargain at the wrong place at the wrong time, you will be shamed in public (shame, shame, shame!). OK, well, not really, but it could potentially be an awkward scene if you do not know when and how to bargain with Spanish style. So, in summary, this video will help you to ask in Spanish for the price of something depending on the type of place you currently are. It will also help you to learn how to remember the gender of an object and to use the articles: “el, la, los, las”, etc., correctly. You will learn to bargain with the master bargainer in México and you will learn to select fast and easy what phrase to use on the spot. You will also get some tips so as not to show your innocence as a tourist and possibly get something triple the price. So watch my video and practice it with your neighbor.
