I took a road trip to Mansfield, Missouri, the town known for Laura Ingalls Wilder authoring her Little House on the Prairie series! I give a vlogstyle tour of the grounds as well as drone footage of the famous homestead.
Laura's children's books she wrote right here released from 1932 to 1943 and are based on her childhood in a settler and pioneer family.
Of course, many may know her better from the 1970s and early 1980s television series Little House on the Prairie. It was loosely based on the Little House books, and starred Melissa Gilbert as Laura Ingalls and Michael Landon as her father, Charles Ingalls.

Also, if you're looking for a good day trip from Branson, MO, this could very well be a great place to visit!

Side note: I visited on July 4, 2022 and it was a hot day!

Here we find ourselves in the Ozarks, not very far from Branson, Missouri, and we are heading to the farm where Laura Ingalls wilder penned her famous children's book series Little house on the prairie. More than 30,000 people around the world visit here each year! Right now we are in the first building you see, which is the visitors center and museum. This is where you get your tour tickets, buy very cute
and timeappropriate things at the gift shop, and explore the museum. It's a good first stop and well.. I guess you kind of have to go get your tickets.
but when you do, they nicely explain everything you need to know
before heading to the grounds. Their historic home tours are at the bottom of the hour and the rock house is at the top of every hour.
Let's stop at the first rocky ridge farmhouse where this place
was built specifically by and for them.. the countertops were very
short as Laura Ingalls wilder was only 4'11. They placed a $100 down payment on 40 acres on this rocky undeveloped land. This home is their final home in Laura's long lifespan of moving. Now this house Laura referred to as dream house. It's a unique 10room home. One of the most memorable things about this house was that it started as basically a small one room cabin and had additions built on from it. Now like I said, I can't film inside of the homes but I did record some audio of the awesome tour guides to give you a little insight into what the tour is like.
Now let's walk on over to the rock house on the rocky ridge trail. I recommend, after i hurried over, to slow it down and stop and see the chicken coop and other features and casually walk over. Or just drive.
Rose Wilder Lane, the Wilders’ only daughter, was a successful
author in her own right. In 1928, Rose had a house built with modern conveniences as a gift to her parents. However, Laura moved here from their rocky ridge farmhouse but eventually moved back a little while later.

Overall it's a fun place to stop and get an insight into
the authors life who grew children's imaginations with her books.
