Landforms describe the shapes of the land around us.

A mountain is a tall piece of land which is usually shaped like a cone. It has steep sides and a pointed tip called a peak. Mountains could be steep and snow covered or they could be gently sloping having rounded tops.A series of mountains is called a mountain range.

Hills are small mounds. They are lower than mountains but higher than the areas around them. A number of hills together form a ‘range of hills’. Hills are usually covered with grass.

Valleys are flat areas between two mountains or hills.

A plateau is an area of land that is higher than the land around it but is flat at the top. It is sometimes called a tableland because it looks like a table. Plateaus are usually surrounded by steep rock faces called cliffs.

Plains are areas of flat land. Most big cities are usually located in plains because it is easy build houses and buildings in it.
