Laminating Wood (One of four methods to shape wood)

James R Vander Schaaf

The laminating process is illustrated in this video. The desired results is for the arms on my Accent Chair.

The laminate consists of three pieces of cherry cut 17" long and 2.5" wide and 1/4" thick (the objective was to get an arm 13/16" thick).

Key elements of this process are:
1) Cut pieces thin enough to bend to the form without breaking (many pieces can be made from 1/8" thick up to 3/8" thick depending upon desired curvature
2) Make up forms that are thick, rigid and unbending. Typically it's best to have two pieces in the form, rather than depend on clamps only on one side. You will have spring back after removing from the form (it's usually minimal).
3) The forms do not have to be as wide as the laminated piece (the video illustrates this).
4) Let the glue dry overnight Please provide comments (I always answer).

Please subscribe and ring the bell (this makes me happy and gets you the next video quickly). Jim
