David Wade Correctional Center’s Risk Management Use Program is making a difference in the lives of participating inmates. The program aims to alter the inmates’ mindset for a more positive behavior change. The up to threemonth curriculum focuses on what contributes to substance use relapsing. The program helps inmates understand and identify which of the 27 risk factors cause them to relapse and go back to their substance of choice. More than 80 percent of incarcerated individuals have substance use issues, which contributed to their recidivism and landed them back in prison. By better understanding their addiction, and how to face it head on, these inmates are less likely to commit more crimes when they release from prison.
