To play a long term game as a cannabis farmer in Humboldt, Kevin Jodrey is sitting on his cannabis cultivation license in the short term and making ends meet in other ways, by consulting and running his store.

With all the turbulence of the early days of legalization in California, where even small players need to pay big fees to stay in the game and compete against well capitalized MultiState Operators (MSOs), Kevin decided he'd rather lose $15,000 by not planting his fields this year than $100,000 by planting.

His goal is to not deplete his bank account before he thinks the (regulatory, permitting and tax) cost of cultivating cannabis will be more sensible and the global demand for Humboldt cannabis will coincide with the ability of Humboldt cannabis farmers to sell out of state and country (legally).
