Two juveniles of Japanese raccoon dog (Nyctereutes viverrinus, family Canidae) loitering around the deserted sett of Japanese badger (Meles anakuma, family Mustelidae) in the secondary forest as they patrolled their territory in search of food at dusk. One of the hungry siblings picked up an inedible fallen leaf (yellow dead leaf of unidentified deciduous tree) on a whim and carried it for a while but eventually dropped it. Captured with my old trail camera in the sunny lateafternoon (around 17:20 PM) of lateAugust 2023 in Japan.
