On the sidelines of the session, Juanita Gomez, a consultant at CIFORICRAF, spoke about how the agency of Indigenous communities managing their wild meat resources can be strengthened.

Wild meat is an important source of food for many communities, but must be managed sustainably. At the European Conference of Tropical Ecology hosted at the University of Lisbon, researchers from around the world gathered at the session “Towards sustainable, equitable and safe wildmeat use in Tropical and subtropical countries: opportunities, lessons learnt, obstacles and risks” on 14 February to discuss wild meat practices and what they mean for health, the environment, and communities.
