Synopsis:
Josef Strauss's Polka française "Fireproof" premiered for the first time on March 13, 1869, at a company celebration of the AltWiener firm Wertheim:
The entire staff directors, workers, office clerks, and cart drivers gathered in the flower halls of the GartenbauGesellschaft on the stillunderconstruction Ringstrasse to celebrate the sale of the 20,000th iron safe. The safes were considered "fireproof" the firm always emphasized this quality in its extensive advertising and thus, the title of Josef Strauss's dedication composition was selfevident. In the coda, the blacksmith hammers of a bygone era still resonate today.
