On March 28, 1954, original Broadway cast members Jan Clayton (Julie Jordan) and John Raitt (Billy Bigelow) performed “If I Loved You” from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel in a twohour TV special called “General Foods 25th Anniversary Show: A Salute to Rodgers and Hammerstein.” The special was hosted by Groucho Marx, Mary Martin, Jack Benny, Ed Sullivan, and Edgar Bergen with his puppet Charlie McCarthy.
