Synopsis:
In 1892, the magazine "AltWien" published a report on the first performance of the already worldfamous "Radetzky March" by Johann StraussFather "from the memories of an old court official." In this undoubtedly authentic account by a contemporary, it was stated, among other things:
"Enthused by the rapidly won victories of Radetzky, Franz Grillparzer published his famous poem:
'Good luck, my commander, lead the strike!
Not just for the glimmer of fame,
In your camp is Austria.'
Shortly thereafter, the first public performance of the subsequently famous 'Radetzky March' by Johann StraussFather took place."
On August 31, 1848, an extra concert was held on the Wasserglacis in front of the Karolinenthor in Vienna, at the end of which the "Radetzky March" sounded for the first time.
"It received thunderous applause and had to be played three times; the jovial and jubilant theme in the trio, authentically Viennese, was especially liked." (Note: This theme was the socalled "Tinerl Song," which was often sung in the Viennese suburbs at that time and was very popular.)
