JLT Performance Oil Separator or "Oil Catch Can" for the 5th Gen 4Runner, Oil Catch Can Install and Overview on the 5th Generation Toyota 4Runner. We cover what an Oil Catch Can Is, What it Does, How it Works, and Why You Need One. Oil Catch Cans are positioned in between the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve to trap fine oil vapors "blowby" gases from the crankcase resulting in cleaner air and fewer oil deposits in your intake system. The 5th Gen 4Runner has port injection which isn't going to cause as many intake valve deposits as direct injection but regardless, overtime port injection still causes buildup and engine deposits. Some consider catch cans for PI (port injection) a waste of money as the blowby gases and deposit buildup isn't as severe as DI (direct injection) and others wouldn't run their engine without one.
