Japanese Field Mouse Infrequently Visits Dunghill of Japanese Raccoon Dog in Midsummer

A nocturnal field mouse [either Large Japanese field mouse (Apodemus speciosus, family Muridae) or Small Japanese field mouse (Apodemus argenteus, family Muridae)] nightly scurrying around the forest floor of Japanese redcedar (Cryptomeria japonica, family Cupressaceae) in search of food. As you can see, the mouse could pass under the straight fallen tree.

70 Minutes after a limping male Japanese raccoon dog (Nyctereutes viverrinus, family Canidae) defecated at the communal latrine beside the fallen tree (   • Wounded Japanese Raccoon Dog Painfull...  ), a Japanese field mouse got a whiff of fresh dung. And the mouse was attracted to the stinky latrine to feed on small dung beetles and/or undigested seeds of various berries and fruits in the dunghill. Captured with my old trailcam at night of early and midAugust 2023 in Japan.
