James Cameron Ruined this 95 year old guitar!

NOT A LUTHIER

I can't think of many things less appealing to be immersed in than a great big steaming pile of Steam Punk. I would describe said "movement" as derivative at best. As far as I can tell it's just bunch of people with terrible taste cosplaying as...people that own goggles. Steam punk apexed with the 1999 steamy pile of "film" known as Wild Wild West, starring Will Smith and a giant robotic spider, and this is not a compliment.
Speaking of derivative, Passport To Iron City was an "immersive experience" derived from the Hollywood film Alita: Battle Angel which was directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron. this film was based on a 1990s Japanese Cyber Punk manga comic called Gunnm ('Gun Dream').
is that convoluted enough for you? Though the original manga comic MAY have been cool, it's safe to say it got increasingly less so as its various derivations spawned, culminating in the monstrosity of a guitar that's on the bench today.
Built in 1928 or 1929, the J R Stewart Le Domino Line of instruments was a massive success, outshining Stewart's better, but possibly less “flashy” instruments. Stewart was so successful, he actually bought the Lyon & Healy factory with plans of dominating the industry, but unfortunately, his purchase came just in time for the stock market crash of 1929, and Stewart declared bankruptcy in 1930, leaving his patented Le Domino line to the hands of Regal, who reinvented the Le domino line in a decidedly depressionera style. The X brace was replaced with ladder bracing, the fingerboard was painted instead of veneered, and some other short cuts and material changes also occurred. Don’t get me wrong, the Regal ladder braced Le Domino is also an excellent parlour guitar. But it wasn’t quite up to the standards of J R Stewart, and is decidedly a depression era instrument.
The Le Domino parlour is best known as the model of guitar Elliot Smith used on his album Roman Candle. His was, as I understand, the later Regal rendition. I made a half hearted attempt to learn a song from Roman Candle, but failed...I did however fix the guitar, play all the backing tracks and make this video...soooo...like and subscribe and hit the bell. all that crap! I'd love to keep making videos, but as a self employed full time single dad, video editing isn't exactly in the cards unless I can get a decent following. I'm super thrilled with the quick growth and progress so far, and am very thankful that so many of you have subbed so far. It means a lot,
At any rate, the crack team of Alita prop makers screwed a bunch of random crap to this guitar. Adding no less than 36 holes. And a bunch of circuits boards and metal scraps. Relegating it to a corner of a room filled with inoperable synthesizers But just underneath all the screwedongarbage I could see the Le Domino decals and knew I had to save this poor thing. It was being sold on eBay, with the affiliation to James Cameron and Robert Rodriquez being the main selling point. Unfortunately, the real selling point of this guitar HAD BEEN the guitar itself. The steampunking ruined the value of the guitar rather than adding to it. Now it’s playing better than ever, and has 36 speed holes to boot. Now I get to take what would be an otherwise collectible guitar camping and to the beach and park without concern. Silver lining!
