Thomas B. Burton answers the following question: "Is There an Annual Fee for an EIN?"

Attorney Burton explains how there is no initial filing fee or annual fee to obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for a Limited Liability Company (LLC). Certain applicants can obtain an EIN directly from the IRS via their online EIN Assistant website application system, or via a paper form submitted to the IRS

The IRS has information on how to apply for an EIN on their website here: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small...

Attorney Burton also explains how THERE IS a filing fee and annual fee at the state level, payable to the state where you organized (formed) your LLC. The LLC filing fee and annual report fee vary from state to state, so it is important to check on this information with the office in your particular state where the LLC Articles of Organization are filed. In Wisconsin, LLCs are organized by filing Articles of Organization with the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions. Any fees discussed in the video were the current fee shown by the state in question on their website at the time this video was recorded, but the filing fees and annual report fees in each state may be changed by the state at anytime, therefore it is best to check on the current filing fee and annual report fee directly with the state office where you plan to form your LLC for the latest information. You can find the current filing fees and annual report fees for organizing a business entity in Wisconsin here: https://dfi.wi.gov/Pages/BusinessServ...

For assistance obtaining an EIN from the IRS or organizing an LLC you should obtain legal and/or tax counsel specific to your situation, before proceeding. This video is general information and not tax or legal advice specific to your situation. If you need legal assistance specific to your situation, you should contact an attorney licensed in your state for assistance.
